Mexican Skull makeup: an easy makeup look for Halloween

KIKO’s Halloween makeup suggestion: MEXICAN SKULL

There are many names for this makeup look associated with the ancient El dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) tradition: Mexican Skull, sugar skull, etc. Although it originated in central America, it is now a world-wide trend (partly because it’s a look with a huge impact that will have you ready to party without worrying about a costume or anything else).

The central element of this Halloween makeup (which is really easy to do) is colour - from your eyes to your lips with a bit of nail art.

Find out how to create the look in just a few steps using our Mexican Skull makeup tutorial!

STEP ONE: makeup base and face makeup to turn you into a true Mexican Skull.

1 - Nourish and prepare your skin for applying makeup. Apply some Smart Hydrashot Cream - a rapid hydration face cream with a fluid texture.

2 - Create the perfect base for your makeup using our Matte Face Base primer, which will leave you with an even, matte finish and camouflage any blemishes.

3 – Apply foundation. You don’t need a classic white base to create the Mexican Skull look so just choose the shade of Full Coverage 2-in-1 Foundation & Concealer that’s right for you.

4- Apply powder. Use Matte Fusion Pressed Powder for flawless makeup all day long (well, all night long J ) with no streaks or shiny patches. For a result that’s perfect under the spotlight and to avoid wasting any product, use the dedicated Face 09 Powder Brush.

5- Use blush to define your features. Use the Face 10 Blush Brush to apply some Smart colour blush n. 10 to your cheekbones, jawline and temples

6- Set the makeup using the Make up fixer spray.

STEP TWO: draw in the details and watch your Mexican Skull look come to life.

This is the creative part of your Mexican Skull makeup - and the fun bit!

1- Use the Ultimate Pen Eye Marker to draw floral designs, starting at your cheeks and moving towards the corners of your mouth. Don’t forget to do your chin as well. Now draw some small circles and petals on your forehead. Ideally, you want to follow the outer contours of your eyes. Draw an upside-down heart on the bottom of your nose (with the tip of the heart pointing upwards).

2- Colour in the flower petals that you drew on your chin and forehead using colour long lasting eyeliner 12 and 02; colour in the circles using Lasting Precision Automatic Eyeliner And Khôl 03 and

High Pigment Wet And Dry Eyeshadow 52. Finally, use some High Pigment Wet And Dry Eyeshadow 21 to colour in the heart on your nose.

STEP THREE: true Mexican Skull eye makeup

STEP THREE: true Mexican Skull eye makeup

1- Apply some Neutral Eye Base to your eyelids.

2- Apply and blend Eyeshadow High Pigment 44 using the dedicated Eyes 58 Blending Brush. Apply the eyeshadow to your eyelids and blend it upwards as far as your eyebrow arch.

3- Apply some more High Pigment Wet And Dry Eyeshadow 21 starting at the inner corners of your eyes and blend across your eyebrows, following the shape of your eyebrows, and around in an imaginary circle as far as your lower eyelids.

Now you should have a socket where the skull’s eyes should be. Fill in the socket with a shade of colour that covers your eyebrows and reaches as far as the lower edge of your eyes.

4- Apply Lasting Precision Automatic Eyeliner And Khôl 16 to the inner rim of your eyes (which is perfect on the inside and outside of your eye rims).

5- Draw little circles of different sizes just above your eyebrows using the Ultimate Pen Eye Marker and colour them in using High Pigment Wet And Dry Eyeshadow 21 - 44 - 52.

6- Draw some little dots with Intense Colour Long Lasting Eyeliner 12, starting at the space in between your eyebrows, above your nose, and moving outwards to the right and left. You can even alternate the dots with the little circles underneath that you drew earlier!

7- Emphasise your eyes by applying Ultra Tech + Volume And Definition Mascara to your upper and lower lashes. This mascara is perfect for achieving volume and definition coat after coat.

STEP FOUR: scary lips!

STEP FOUR: scary lips!

1 - Apply some Unlimited Double Touch 109 to your lips. This two-step lipstick is liquid-based and long-lasting.

PS: for this makeup look you only need the base colour, not the gloss.

2 - Use Creamy Colour Comfort Lip Liner 325 to draw vertical lines on your lips to look like skeleton teeth.
